About the engagement

Bandpey GmbH is a data and AI software company in Munich, Germany. For a client in Germany we are looking for an experienced C++ freelancer to work on established desktop applications used in healthcare. The codebase is a long-lived, mixed Qt estate built with CMake, Conan and MSVC, with embedded CEF and legacy components in MFC, ATL, Win32 and Delphi. The work centres on performance, stability and the gradual modernization of these products.

What you will do
  • Develop and maintain C++ components for the desktop applications, with priority on performance, stability and scalability.
  • Design and implement multithreading and parallelization for safe, efficient concurrent execution that meets the responsiveness needs of clinical users.
  • Analyse the existing code, locate performance bottlenecks and improve the runtime behaviour of the products.
  • Work with architecture, QA and product management to deliver maintainable, high-quality solutions.
  • Support the migration of legacy MFC, ATL, Win32 and Delphi components toward modern C++ and current .NET.
  • Use AI coding agents such as Claude Code in daily work to speed up refactoring, code analysis and legacy modernization, and contribute to the team's shared agents, skills and prompt templates.
What you bring
  • Several years of senior C++ development, preferably in high-performance, heavily parallelized desktop systems.
  • Strong command of modern C++ (C++14, 17 and 20), multithreading and concurrency models, debugging and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with CMake, Conan and MSVC, and with integrating components such as CEF and Qt.
  • A structured, analytical working style with high quality standards.
Nice to have
  • Hands-on experience with Claude Code or similar agentic coding tools, including building agents, skills and workflows; familiarity with AI pipelines, harnesses and context engineering.
  • A background in regulated or healthcare software.
  • A degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering or a comparable field; relevant experience can substitute.
Engagement details
  • Six months, full-time, starting as soon as possible.
  • Remote from within the EU; hybrid or occasional on-site days in Germany can be arranged.
  • Fluent English required; good German is an advantage.
